When Do You Need a Panel Upgrade?
Most homes built before 2000 have 100 AMP panels that weren't designed for today's electrical demands.
Here are the most common signs you need an upgrade:
- Breakers trip frequently or won't reset
- You're adding an EV charger, hot tub, or major appliance
- Your panel still uses fuses instead of breakers
- You see scorch marks, smell burning, or hear buzzing from the panel
- Your home insurance company is requiring an upgrade
- You're planning a renovation or addition
What Affects the Price?
No two panel upgrades are exactly the same. Here's what can move the price up or down:
Panel Size
Going from 100 to 200 AMP is the most common upgrade.
Permit & Inspection Fees
Required by code. We handle all permitting — it's included in our process.
Meter Base Replacement
Sometimes the utility company requires a new meter base. This may add to the project cost.
Wiring Condition
If existing wiring is damaged, outdated, or aluminum, additional work may be needed.
Location & Access
Panels in tight crawl spaces, high walls, or exterior locations may require extra labor.
