LIGHTING
INSTALLATION
Professional lighting installation throughout Maryland and Washington DC. Recessed lights, smart lighting, landscape systems, dimmer switches, and custom fixture installations. Every job done by a licensed electrician, properly permitted, and built to last.
Lighting Installation in Maryland and DC
Good lighting does more than brighten a room. It affects how a space feels, how safely you move through it, and how much you pay on your electric bill every month. Maryland and DC homes vary widely, from older rowhouses in Baltimore and DC with outdated wiring to newer construction in the suburbs with modern panels.
Before any lighting project, we assess your existing wiring, load capacity, and panel to make sure the installation is safe and code-compliant. We install recessed lighting, smart systems, landscape lighting, under-cabinet lights, dimmer switches, ceiling fixtures, and more.
We pull permits when required, handle all inspections, and clean up completely before we leave. Most residential lighting projects are completed in a single day.
When You Need a Lighting Upgrade
- Outdated fluorescent fixtures that flicker, buzz, or produce harsh light
- Remodeling a kitchen, bathroom, or living area and need proper lighting before walls close
- Want smart home controls but existing switches are not compatible
- Outdoor lighting is inadequate for security or curb appeal
- Ceiling fan or chandelier location with no existing wiring box
- Dimmers flicker or buzz with LED bulbs installed after an older dimmer
- Finishing a basement, attic, or addition that needs lighting circuits run first

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a permit to install recessed lighting in Maryland or DC?
Adding recessed lighting to an existing circuit in a finished room generally does not require a permit. Running new circuits, adding to your panel, or work in certain jurisdictions may. We know the requirements for Maryland, DC, and Northern Virginia and pull all necessary permits as part of the job.
Can you install recessed lighting in a room without attic access?
Yes. We do this regularly throughout the DMV area. It involves cutting into the drywall to run wire and patching afterward. We provide a clean finish, though touch-up painting is the homeowner's responsibility unless separately agreed.
Why do my LED lights flicker or buzz on my existing dimmer switches?
Most older dimmers were designed for incandescent bulbs and use a different type of phase control than what LED drivers require. The fix is an LED-compatible dimmer rated for your specific wattage and bulb type. This is one of the most common lighting calls we get.
How many recessed lights do I need for a room?
A general rule is to divide the ceiling height by two and use that as the spacing between fixtures. A room with 8-foot ceilings typically needs fixtures spaced 4 feet apart, 2 feet from walls. For a 12x15 foot room, that is often 6 to 8 lights. We include a layout recommendation with every estimate at no extra charge.
What is the difference between hardwired smart lighting and smart bulbs?
Smart bulbs require the wall switch to stay on and can be accidentally turned off. Hardwired smart switches replace the wall switch and work regardless of the bulb. For multi-room systems, hardwired is more reliable and integrates better with smart home platforms.
Can you add outdoor lighting to a home that has no exterior wiring?
Yes. We run new circuits from your panel, install weatherproof boxes and conduit, and ensure all outdoor wiring meets NEC and local code for wet locations. We also handle low-voltage landscape systems with a dedicated transformer for path and garden lighting.
